The Positioning Lab

Build a stronger case for the career move you want.

Getting the next role isn't just about being capable. You need to target the right opportunities, make your value obvious and prove what you're capable of when it matters. The Positioning Lab gives you practical working tools to do exactly that.

Target

Target the right opportunities.

Position

Make your value obvious.

Prove

Tell stories that prove it.

The problem

Being good enough isn't the same as being the obvious choice.

Strong candidates still make poor career moves.

They pursue the wrong opportunities. They struggle to explain why their experience is relevant. They give competent interview answers that don't make their capability memorable.

The Positioning Lab helps you solve those problems deliberately.

  • Target

    Where should I focus?

  • Position

Why should they see me as relevant?

  • Prove

What evidence will make them believe it?

Three tools. Three jobs.

Start with the problem that matters most.

Each tool solves a different part of the career-move problem. Use the one you need, or work through all three as part of the Complete Career Positioning Programme.

01Target

Target the right opportunities.

Stop treating every vacancy as an opportunity.

A good career move is not simply the first attractive role you can get. Target helps you decide what your next move actually needs to give you, identify the organisations and opportunities worth pursuing, pressure-test real roles and build routes to the people who matter.

Also referred to as Career Opportunities.

The problem it solves

Some of these will apply to you. Not all of them.

  • Too many possible roles and no way to choose between them
  • Reactive job-board searching
  • Attractive roles that quietly fail important career criteria
  • An unclear read on what an organisation actually needs
  • No deliberate route to the people behind the opportunity
What you do
  • Define what a worthwhile move needs to give you
  • Set non-negotiables and wrong-move flags
  • Identify target problems and organisations
  • Evaluate real opportunities
  • Deep-dive one representative or particularly attractive opportunity
  • Separate what is stated from what is inferred or still unknown
  • Map decision-makers, influencers and access routes
  • Decide what deserves action now
What you build
  • Opportunity Criteria
  • Non-Negotiables
  • Wrong-Move Flags

  • Role Reality Check

02Position

Make your value obvious.

Experience doesn't speak for itself.

Position helps you turn your experience into a clear, evidence-backed case for the move you want - then make sure that case shows up in the places and conversations that influence the decision.

Also referred to as Positioning & Visibility.

The problem it solves

Some of these will apply to you. Not all of them.

  • Strong experience but an unclear career narrative
  • Generic descriptions of capability
  • Claims without enough visible proof
  • A LinkedIn profile or CV telling an old version of the story
  • The right people not seeing evidence of target-level capability
What you do
  • Identify the problems you are credible to solve
  • Build your Value Case
  • Pressure-test your positioning themes
  • Connect claims to evidence
  • Map proof to the audiences that need to see it

  • Apply the positioning across relevant professional channels

03Prove

Tell stories that prove it.

Don't just say you're capable. Give them evidence they can remember.

An interviewer cannot assess your entire career. They can only assess the evidence you give them. Prove helps you select your strongest experiences, uncover the judgement behind them and build credible stories that show what you did, why it mattered and what that proves about you.

Also referred to as Interview Stories.

The problem it solves

Some of these will apply to you. Not all of them.

  • Good experience but generic interview answers
  • Too much context and not enough contribution
  • Strong results without the judgement behind them
  • Rehearsed STAR answers that sound formulaic
  • Difficulty choosing the right example under pressure
What you do
  • Decide what capabilities actually need proving
  • Select the experiences that provide the strongest evidence
  • Build the context, challenge and stakes
  • Surface judgement and genuine tension
  • Make personal contribution clear without overclaiming
  • Separate impact from significance
  • Connect the story to what it proves
  • Build different levels of detail
  • Pressure-test your strongest stories

FAQ

Questions, answered.

What's the difference between Target, Position and Prove?

Target helps you decide where to focus and how to create access. Position helps you make your relevance and value clear. Prove helps you turn your experience into evidence you can use when you are being assessed.

Which one should I start with?

If you are unsure, take the free Career Positioning Scorecard or the Career Positioning Audit. If you already know the problem you need to solve, choose the relevant specialist tool. If you want the full process, choose the Complete Career Positioning Programme.

Do I have to use all three?

No. Each specialist product solves a specific problem on its own. The Complete Career Positioning Programme is for people who want the full connected process.

What order do I complete the Complete Programme in?

Diagnose → Target → Position → Prove. The Career Positioning Audit comes first, because it identifies what deserves attention and creates the diagnostic foundation the other tools build on.

Are these courses?

No. They are guided interactive working tools inside your Career Positioning Workspace. You answer focused questions about your own move and build real assets as you work, rather than watching videos or reading a PDF.

What do I actually leave with?

Your Career Profile and the assets you build inside each tool - such as your opportunity criteria and access map, your value case and proof map, or your story bank - all saved in your Workspace, plus a personalised Playbook assembled from the work you have approved.

How does the AI work?

You supply the thinking and the evidence. The tool structures it. AI may help synthesise or express what you have already approved. AI does not invent your experience.

Does my work carry between tools?

Yes. The tools share the same underlying Career Profile, so your target move, evidence and approved positioning work are reused across Audit, Target, Position and Prove rather than being re-entered.

Do I need to complete a tool in one session?

No. Your progress is saved as you work, and you can return to your Workspace and continue at any point.

Does the Complete Programme include 1:1 coaching?

No. 1:1 Career Strategy is a separate, selective service.

Make your next move deliberately.

Target the right opportunities. Make your value obvious. Tell stories that prove it.
