A career strategy practice - not a motivation brand.
The Positioning Lab exists to answer one question well: how do capable people get read accurately by the people deciding on promotions and senior hires?
The method comes from three vantage points that rarely sit together - commercial leadership, hiring and recruitment, and learning and development. Building teams, sitting on interview panels, and then designing the training that was meant to fix the gap afterwards.
Most of the work now lives in tools: diagnostics, playbooks and systems you can use on your own. Self-directed programmes go deeper for those who want the whole method. A small number of 1:1 strategy engagements run each quarter for senior professionals with a complex move in front of them.
The Lab is an independent career strategy practice founded and led by Rich Benson.

Rich Benson
Founder & career strategist-in-residence
Fifteen years spent on the hiring side of senior commercial roles - building teams, sitting on panels, and watching capable people get passed over for reasons that had nothing to do with capability. The Positioning Lab is the method that came out of it.
Four things we hold to.
Method over motivation
We work from a tested framework. If we can't justify it, we don't teach it.
Hiring-side first
Everything starts with how the hiring side reads the role. Then we work backwards.
Tools first
Most people don't need a coach. They need a clear read on their positioning and a method for changing it.
Real outcomes
We measure success by the moves clients make, not the sessions we deliver.
