How we collect, use, protect and retain information when you use The Positioning Lab.

Last updated: 13 September 2026

Who we are

The Positioning Lab is responsible for the personal information described here. Questions or rights requests can be sent to enquiries@thepositioninglab.co.uk.

Information we collect

Depending on how you use the service, we may hold:

  • Your name, email address, account identifiers and authentication records.
  • Your current and intended career direction, career history, goals, priorities and preferences.
  • Scorecard and Audit responses, scores, evidence cards, examples, target problems and other structured career information you enter.
  • Generated diagnoses, results, reports, playbooks, workspace content, progress and completion records.
  • Enquiries, callback details, alpha feedback and communication preferences.
  • Technical, security and basic usage information needed to operate, protect and improve the service.

Please protect confidential information

Do not enter unnecessary confidential employer, client, candidate or third-party information into the career tools. Use anonymised descriptions where names or identifying details are not needed. You are responsible for having a lawful basis to provide any information about another person.

How we collect and use information

We collect information directly from you through accounts, tools, forms, feedback and communications, and automatically when the systems operate. We use it to create and administer accounts, save and generate your work, provide support, secure the service, prevent misuse, maintain records and improve the alpha.

These purposes rely on performing the service you request, our legitimate interests in operating and securing it, compliance with legal obligations, and consent where you make an optional marketing or analytics choice.

Career-tool outputs

The tools apply structured and deterministic methods to information you provide to create career-development guidance. They do not make employment decisions and do not produce decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. You remain responsible for checking outputs and deciding how to use them.

Account and service communications

We may send necessary messages about account confirmation, security, password resets or material service changes. These are not marketing. Report-email delivery and PDF delivery are not currently active features.

Optional marketing

Marketing is optional and separate from creating an account or sending an enquiry. We only add you to The Positioning Briefing when you make that choice. You can withdraw it at any time by using an unsubscribe option when available or emailing enquiries@thepositioninglab.co.uk.

Enquiries and alpha feedback

We use enquiry details to respond and manage the conversation you started. We use alpha feedback to assess and improve the service. Sending an enquiry does not add you to marketing.

Usage measurement and browser storage

Optional first-party usage measurement records broad page-section views and button interactions only after permission. Essential browser storage keeps you signed in, retains product progress and remembers interface preferences. See our Cookie Policy.

Service providers

We use Lovable for application hosting and infrastructure, and its managed backend service for authentication, database and storage. The Contact page can load Calendly when you choose to use the embedded booking calendar. Google serves the site fonts. These providers process technical or submitted information only to provide their services.

HubSpot is not currently connected and we do not currently send information to it. If activated later, it may receive limited CRM contact information, account status, broad product status and legitimately recorded marketing consent - never full Audit answers, evidence cards, career stories, detailed career history or full reports.

International processing

Some service providers may process information outside the UK. Where required, transfers are protected using safeguards recognised under UK data-protection law.

Retention

Account and saved career work are kept while your account is active and for a limited period afterwards where needed for security, legal or operational reasons. Enquiries and alpha feedback are kept only as long as useful for the relationship and service improvement. Optional marketing records are retained until you withdraw or the list is no longer used. We review retained information and delete or anonymise it when it is no longer needed.

Security

The service uses encrypted connections, authenticated accounts and row-level access controls designed to separate each user's saved work. No internet service is risk-free, but access is limited to people and providers who need it to operate the service.

Your UK data-protection rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may ask to access, correct or erase your information, restrict or object to its use, receive portable information, or withdraw consent. Contact enquiries@thepositioninglab.co.uk. We normally respond within one month.

If you remain unhappy, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Changes

We will update this policy when the service or its data use changes. The date at the top identifies the current version.
